Nordic Animism

Indigenous Knowledge

SCR 3 - SEPT 2025

This project focuses on restoring and revitalising Northern European traditional knowledge, and on the importance of weaving that knowledge into modern education systems. Understanding who you are begins with understanding where you come from: the places, histories, and ancestral connections that shape identity and ground us in the world.

Name: Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen
Position: Founder, Nordic Animism
Bio: Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen is a historian of religion with a Ph.D. from the Universities of Uppsala and Copenhagen. Having lived in multiple countries and conducted extensive fieldwork within contemporary, primarily Afro-descendant, religious traditions, he has cultivated a broad and nuanced understanding of global spiritual practices. Yet since childhood, his deepest fascination has been with Nordic religion.Today, Rune focuses on applying contemporary anthropological insights to reframe how Nordic religion is understood, both academically and as a rich source of cultural knowledge that can inform environmental activism and deepen our collective sensitivity to sustainability. His ongoing work advancing the Nordic Animism perspective continues to grow and can be supported through this initiative.
