Amazon Forest Guardian is about protecting and empowering forests, their communities, and the knowledge that sustains them. Aligning with a systems-change approach, the initiative shifts the framework of environmental governance by centering Indigenous leadership, blending ancestral wisdom with modern technology, and creating pathways for legal and economic agency. By equipping forest guardians with the tools to monitor deforestation, access justice, and develop regenerative livelihoods, the initiative offers a living model for how communities can safeguard ecosystems while reimagining their relationship with the land.

Bio: Odair “Dadá” Borari is an Indigenous leader from the Maró territory in Pará, Brazil, and one of the Amazon’s most respected forest defenders. Born in 1981 and raised deep within the rainforest, he learned from an early age to see the forest as family and to respect its limits. Chosen by his community at thirteen to become a future leader, he was trained by his elders in the values of humility, restraint, and protection of Mother Earth,principles that continue to guide his life’s work.Today, Dadá works alongside Dutch criminologist Tim Boekhout van Solinge, to document illegal deforestation. By empowering Indigenous forest guardians with evidence gathering tools and legal access, Dadá has helped protect forest and drive out illegal logging operations across multiple territories.
